JOHN (28 years old); He came to Backstreet Missions
in 1995. He was full of hate and anger. He would not talk
to
anyone
and stayed in his room muttering to himself. John remained
with Backstreet Missions for about one year, the longest
resident stay. When he left, he had a full-time job and
an apartment. He was recently married, attends church,
and keeps close contact with the staff of Backstreet
Missions.
MICHAEL (29 years old); He
had an addiction to alcohol. He was a resident of Backstreet
Missions for six months. Michael stopped drinking, found
a full-time job, and an apartment. He was recently married;
promoted to manager of a trailer park; reestablished
his relationships with his three sons; sings in his church's
choir; and volunteers at the mission whenever possible.
VIOLET (24 years old); She
arrived at the mission in September of 1997. A life full
of drug and alcohol abuse had robbed her life of everything,
including her three children. By March of 1998, Violet
had regained custody of her children, had an apartment,
a full-time job, and had saved enough money to purchase
a 1989 automobile. She attends church regularly and sings
in the choir.
JACKIE (40 years old); She
had been rejected by her family because of an illness.
Jackie gained control of her life, in spite of her illness.
Through prayer and church, she garnered the strength
to live again. She currently works full time at Indiana
University where she recently received a promotion.
