Knowing God
Six
Biblical Truths You Need To Know
As a ministry,
we are dedicated to helping the homeless and hurting with practical
help and sharing with them the love of Jesus Christ. We are
committed to fulfilling our Lord's admonition found in Matthew
25:35-45 to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and
those in prison. God's great love for mankind is evident in the
following biblical truths:
1. God
Loves Us And Created Us
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the
world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever would believe
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
Romans 5:8 - "But God
demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still
sinners, Christ died for us."
Psalm 139:13,15 - "For you
created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret
place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth ...."
John 17:3 - "Now this is eternal
life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom you have sent."
Ezekiel 18:32 - "For I take no
pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent
and live!"
2. Our
Sin Keeps Us From Knowing God
Sin is more than disobedience to God's
laws. It is the desire to control our own lives rather than letting
God have control. Sin is a self-centered attitude.
Romans 3:23 - "for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord."
Hebrews 9:27 - "It is appointed
to men to die once, and after that to face judgment."
Isaiah 59:2 - "But your sins have
separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from
you, so that He will not hear."
3. We
Can Know God Only Through Christ
Jesus Christ is Lord: He is God.
John 10:30 - "I and the Father are one"
Jesus Never Sinned
Hebrews 4:15 - "For we do not have a high priest who
is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has
been tempted in every way, just as we are - - yet without sin."
Jesus Died For Our Sins
1 Peter 3:18 - "For Christ died for sins once for all, the
righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to
death in the body but made alive by the Spirit."
Jesus Rose From The Dead
1 Corinthians 15:2-6
- "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I
preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I
received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and He
was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures ..."
Jesus Provided The Only Way For Us
To Know God
Acts 4:12 - "Salvation is found in no one else, for
there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be
saved."
4. To Know Christ We Must
Receive Him Into Our Lives
Acts 16:31 - "Believe in the Lord
Jesus Christ and you will be saved ..."
1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness."
Mark 1:15 - "The time has come,
the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news."
Acts 3:19 - "Repent, then, and
turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of
refreshing may come from the Lord."
5. Jesus Christ Can Change Our
Lives When We Come To Know Him
2 Corinthians 5:17 - "Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the
new has come!"
Some changes occur quickly and some
changes occur over time, but if you have received Christ you are a
new creation. The person who has received Christ should understand
they now have:
A new identity. You have
become a son or daughter of God.
Forgiveness of sin and freedom from the guilt of sin.
Psalm 103:12 - "As far as the east is from the west, so far
has He removed our transgressions from us."
A new love and acceptance from other Christians.
Confidence in eternity and today.
Victory over the power of temptation.
Access to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Freedom from all the bondage of the past.
6. We Are To Grow And Mature
As We Know Christ Better
The prayer of confession and repentance
is only the beginning of our Christian experience. We are to grow
and mature in our faith and commitment to Christ.
Ephesians 4:13 - "...until we all
reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ."
Ephesians 4:15 - "Instead,
speaking the truth in love , we will in all things grow up into Him
who is the Head, that is, Christ."
Every Christian should participate in
daily prayer and reading of the Bible, be obedient to God's Word,
live to please your Father in Heaven and attend a Bible believing
church.
